Royal London has appointed Peter Josse as its new group chief operating officer (COO).

Josse joins the life, pension and investment mutual on 4 March and will report to Royal London group chief executive Barry O’Dwyer.

He was previously at Barclays where he has held the position of chief information officer since 2018. In total, he spent 15 years at the bank.

Before Barclays, Josse worked at ABN AMRO, the third-largest Dutch bank, for 11 years.

O’Dwyer said: “To have someone of Peter’s calibre and track record joining Royal London demonstrates our ambition.

“We have delivered a number of significant transformation programmes in recent years, and we are committed to modernising our capabilities even further to allow customers and financial advisers to engage with us efficiently and seamlessly.

“Peter brings passion for using technology to provide outstanding digital experiences and a vision for delivering great customer outcomes, and we’re delighted to be welcoming him to the Royal London team.”

Josse added: “Royal London’s customer-owned status was a big draw. Being able to focus on delivering long-term value solely in the interests of our customers was an incredibly exciting prospect.

“I’m looking forward to playing my part in providing outstanding experiences for customers, advisers and, also, for Royal London colleagues.”

The appointment is subject to regulatory approval.

Earlier this month, Royal London strengthened its protection team with two new hires.

Fiona Wynn was appointed as head of protection proposition and Mark Preston as service delivery manager with responsibility for large cases.

Royal London said Wynn and Preston’s appointment “support plans for growth, particularly in the high net worth and business protection space”.

It added that the two hires also “bolster its support for advisers”.

Wynn was previously head of products at Legal and General within its retail protection division and Preston has worked with Aegon individual protection business.
