Aviva appoints Segal and Poisson to Independent Governance Committee

Aviva has appointed Jenny Segal and Rene Poisson to its Independent Governance Committee (IGC).

The appointments are effective immediately and follow the departure of Marcia Campbell and Gurmukh Hayre earlier this year.

Segal is an actuary and chief investment officer for Nesta Trust. She is also a professional speaker on workplace culture and helping business performance, and has written three books on motivation at work.

Poisson is chair of the JP Morgan UK Pension Plan and chairs the advisory committee for several Five Arrows Direct Lending funds.

Poisson has a range of experience across UK defined contribution pensions, with previous roles that include chair of the Standard Life IGC, director of the Standard Life Master Trust, and director of the Universities Superannuation Scheme.

Segal and Poisson will join the committee alongside Colin Richardson (chair) and its other members, Ian Baines and Georgia Stewart, and non-independent member, Emma Douglas.

The IGC acts solely in the interests of scheme members and operates independently of Aviva. Its purpose is to ensure pensions with Aviva provide value for money.

Segal said: I’m delighted to be joining Aviva’s IGC. Aviva is a market leader in workplace pensions, and I look forward to helping them to provide good outcomes for their pension scheme members.”

Poisson added: “I’m pleased to be joining Aviva’s IGC and look forward to contributing to its work in ensuring Aviva’s products deliver value for money and good outcomes for hard working savers.”

Commenting on their appointments, Stuart Gash, pension governance manager at Aviva, said: Rene and Jenny join us at a time when the industry is expecting guidance from the regulators on new ways of assessing value for money. Their skills and experience will bring a fresh perspective to the IGC, which is responsible for assessing the value of the largest workplace pensions business in the market.”
