FCA to survey firms on how it regulates financial-services sector

The Financial Conduct Authority is launching a survey into how it regulates the financial-services sector.

The annual survey will be sent to regulated firms, asking them to share their feedback on the work of the regulator.

In a statement today (30 January), the FCA said that for the first time the survey will be sent out to all regulated firms, allowing it to capture an even wider range of response.

It said the survey results will be used to better understand issues affecting firms and to assess any changes it should consider making, so it can operate more efficiently and effectively.

The FCA added that the survey is one of several sources of feedback used to evaluate its performance against key areas of its three-year strategy.

It will be carried out on behalf of the regulator by Verian, formerly known as Kantar Public, an independent social-research organisation.

The survey findings will be published in summer 2025 after an initial presentation to the Practitioner Panel and the FCA Board.

Last year’s survey feedback covered a range of issues and the FCA said it is taking actions to implement them.

They include delivering new measures to support growth, such as the overhaul of UK listing rules, the reform of UK retail disclosure rules, changes to the remuneration regime with the PRA, proposals to provide better value for money for workplace pension savers, and the launch of AI Lab to support innovators.

There were also calls for the regulator to streamline its rulebook and to continue to make it easier for firms to supply data, including creating a new firm portal.
